Kirsten Whaley

Kirsten completed a Degree in Podiatry with honours in 2001 at LaTrobe University. Her thesis titled ‘An investigation into measurement comparisons between barefoot prints and innersole impressions’ was completed for use in the up and coming area of Forensic Podiatry. The hope from the study was to determine whether a person’s barefoot print and innersole impression in their worn shoes have the same measurement parameters. If so it could help identify the owner of footwear which may be left at a crime scene. Since graduating she has worked as a Podiatrist in London for an NHS trust and well as in Launceston, Tasmania for a private foot clinic. Kirsten has spent over 4 years working at the Caulfield General Medical centre focussing on clients with diabetes, providing vital foot care and education sessions to those with ‘high risk’ feet. During her time at the hospital she also helped to develop a paediatric (children) podiatry service. Kirsten joined the team in 2006, she has keen interests in foot care for those with diabetes and also paediatric (childrens) foot assessments. Kirsten feels the most rewarding part of being a Podiatrist is being able to help people, young or old, continue with their day to day lives without unneccesary footpain. Outside of work Kirsten lives in Hampton with her husband Nick, their daughter Olive, and their two Whippets, Poppet and Benny.
